The Jackrabbit Homesteads of Wonder Valley CA architecture photography. These plots of land could be purchased for $10 to $20 per acre starting shortly after WWII. To secure the purchase, homesteaders had to build a home of some sort on the land. Unfortunately, California’s Mojave Desert can be a cruel mistress. Most of the loners, artists, war veterans and vacationing Angelenos left their tiny homes and hopes to crumble in the arid desert landscape.
I captured these intriguing structures in the simplest way…one that I envision encapsulates the lives and mindset of those who may have chosen to live within these isolated homes. Prints of these images are available for purchase. Please use the contact page for pricing information.
