Industrial Product Photography – From Factory Floor Ugly to Fantastic

May 31, 2018 by admin

On location, industrial product photography may be the only choice for your company.  Let’s face it; large items are nearly impossible to photograph in a studio.  I have the perfect option for you.  High-quality location-based photography can yield excellent images even in the worst of conditions.  Even when products are surrounded by many distractions and lit poorly, I transform the final photograph into a hero shot.  The difference between the before/ after example photos below is astounding. Extracting and editing the reels from the factory floor makes an unusable photo a great sales tool.

Industrial Product Photography: Capturing and Editing

Before capturing images, it is important for me to know what your needs and wishes are.  Communication is vital so that I will produce images that work for you.  Understanding the purpose of the photographs, the details that are most important to highlight, and to whom you are marketing will help me determine efficient use of time while creating powerful images.

Discussion before the shoot helps me determine what gear to use. Options: A) Working light and fast employing a handheld camera and available light. B) Taking a more methodical tripod mounted approach utilizing available light. C) Adding portable studio lighting to enhance the available lighting. Properly assessing your needs and budget will steer me in the right direction.

During the shoot, it is helpful to have a “guide”.  This guide can advise me on, safety issues,  the subject arrangement, distraction removal, and details to include. It’s nice to have a second set of eyes verifying when I have what is needed for any given subject.

With a bit of editing, a grungy before photo can become an image that boosts the sales of your products.  Simply by separating the product from the background, cleaning up scuffs and scrapes, removing unwanted elements and creating a believable drop shadow, I was able to take this image from ugly to attractive.

Contact me when you’re ready to bat some ideas around.  I’ll be pleased to discuss any project you may be considering.
